Abstract
|
In Vietnam, some Math courses are conducted in English with an attempt to familiarise learners with Mathametical vocabulary. In this workshop, we will demonstrate activities that can make Maths lessons more engaging and challenging with learners to promote both Mathematical concepts, English skills, and cognitive development.

Biography of Speakers
|
As a teacher, teacher-educator and language education researcher, Diane Potts has worked with teachers and learners to integrate language and content learning (EMI) for nearly 20 years. Her teaching and research activities have crossed three continents and she has worked with young learners, immigrant children, teenagers and university students in a range of English-dominant and foreign language settings. Her research interests include how language works with other resources – visuals, graphics, etc. – in EMI settings and how students’ local knowledge can be harnessed to further the English language studies.
Jenefer Philp’s research interests spring from her experiences as a teacher and teacher training in high schools, universities and informal settings, in Australia, Indonesia, USA &UK. Her three published books and various journal articles focus on interaction and learning in the classroom and the complementary roles played by teachers and students in developing English for varied purposes.
Nha Vu (VIETNAM) is the dean of the Faculty of English, the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University (ULIS). She obtained a bachelor (2001) and a master (2006) degree in English language teaching at ULIS and a doctoral degree in Education at the University of New South Wales, Australia (2014). Her thesis examined the implementation of English-medium programs at a public university. Before working at ULIS, Nha was responsible for teaching and developing syllabi for General English and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. Her research interests include project-based learning, educational change, ESP/EMI, classroom-based research and needs analysis. Currently, Nha focuses on teacher development and curriculum implementation in Vietnam.
